Dark, eternal raining and lush green vegetation- these are some of the words that might characterize rainforests for you. Extending over an area of 17 million acres in the southeast of Alaska, the Tongass National Park is a remote and undisturbed tropical rainforest that houses many endangered animal species and rare plants. The 75,000 people who inhabit the forest are Alaskan Native peoples who depend on the land for their livelihood. For the promotion of tourism, there are 150 cabins available inside for rent with designated bear-viewing areas. For those who like camping, there are 15 campgrounds with backdrops against the magnificent Alaskan wilderness and glaciers. Other activities to do here are: Kayaking and canoeing.

3. Primorsky Krai in Siberia, Russia

Primorsky Krai Rainforest borders Pacific Ocean and China and it known for its temperate climate as opposed to the dry and barren snowscape of Siberia. Even though it is a rare beauty to see in Russia, but its tourism is marred by illegal logging and poaching. It is one of the last refuges for the Siberian tiger and the Amur leopard, among other endangered species.

Located on the banks of the Daintree River, the Daintree Rainforest is one of the most complex ecosystems in Australia and the world. Despite covering less than 1 percent of the Australian landmass, the forest contains 3 percent of frog, reptile and marsupial species, 7 percent of bird species and 90 percent of bat and butterfly species in in Australia. It is also home to many primitive and ancient species, estimated to date back some 110 million years.

There is much endemic wildlife, especially birds, but the reserve is also home to over 50% of Sri Lanka's endemic species of mammals and butterflies, as well as many kinds of insects, reptiles and rare amphibians.
