Fall is such a perfect season. A time when the trees are coloured in vibrant hues of orange, brown and yellow. And a perfect time to go apple picking. This fall, head over to these apple-picking orchards with your loved ones and have a gala time picking the forbidden fruit!

Mt. View Orchards, Mt. Hood, Oregon:

Head over to Mt. View Orchards with your kids and have a fun time not only picking apples but also finding your way through their corn maze! A fantastic place to spend a day at, this orchard has picnic spots spread over 50 acres! Apple varieties include Winesap, Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, Fuji and Braeburn.  

Bear Swamp Orchard, Ashfield, Massachusetts:

Founded in the year 2005 and run by Steven Gougeon and Jennifer Williams, the Bear Swamp Orchard is a 25 acre farm situated in Ashfield. During fall weekends, head over to this orchard for apple picking and hard cider tastings. Their in-house store sells fresh sweet unpasteurized cider, handmade doughnuts, raw cider vinegar, jams and jellies and Shetland sheep fleece.

Sky Top Orchard, Flat Rock, North Carolina:

At the Sky Top Orchard, visitors get to pick apples, peaches, Asian pears and, in season, pumpkins & grapes. You can also enjoy hot apple cider doughnuts made right before your eyes. Hop on a hayride, pick pumpkins and gourds and enjoy a picnic with your loved ones. You get to meet cute farm animals such as goats, sheep, chickens, turkeys, peacocks, ducks and geese. A perfect way to spend the day.

Brighton Woods Orchard, Burlington, Wisconsin:

Brighton Woods Orchard is a family run orchard housing over 200 apple varieties, seeded and seedless grapes, quince and pears. Although it is not a ‘pick your own orchard’, if you are in town with your kids, this place has a two story treehouse which is a favourite with children. Within the treehouse is a play stove, a playing house and a climbing the ladder to the second floor. While the kids play, the adults can take a walk through the orchard or stroll through the enchanting woods trails.

Stribling Orchard, Markham, Virginia:

Established almost 200 years ago, the Stribling Orchard in Virginia is a family owned farm consisting of approximately 30 acres of apple trees and 15 acres of peach trees. Apart from apple picking, one can also enjoy activities such as picnicking and farm animal petting. They even have a bakery on the premises which operates on weekends. Added bonus- breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains!

Johnson Orchards, Yakima, Washington:

A local favourite, the Johnson Orchards are situated right in the middle of the city. Step back in time and enjoy the beauty of the orchard which has a 1916 fruit packing warehouse. Within the orchard is a bakery that sells scrumptious apple pie, blueberry pie, pecan pie and peach pie.  

Deardorff Orchards, Waconia, Minnesota:

A pet friendly orchard, the Deardorff Orchards and Vineyards are nestled on 125 acres of pristine land. They grow 10 varieties of apple and 5 varieties of Minnesota Cold Climate wine grapes. Within the premises is a rustic barn which was built in the year 1888. Inside the barn, you will find the Parley Lake Winery tasting room, as well as a sales counter selling hand-made crafts, local honey kitchenware, apple cider, books, jams and jellies, pumpkins and much more. Don’t forget to take a tractor pulled wagon ride through the orchard and vineyard.

One of the top five apple orchards in USA Today's ‘10 Best Apple Orchards in the Country’, Kiyokawa Family Orchards is a family-owned and operated farm located in Parkdale, Oregon. Part of the famous Hood River Valley (known to produce the nation's finest apples and pears), the orchard has been in operation since the year 1911. They offer over 80 distinct varieties of apples, pears and Asian pears. A visit to the orchard will provide an unforgettable family experience with breathtaking views of Mt. Hood.
