With a legacy of 15 years, this is one of the largest hot air balloon festivals in New England, located on the banks of the picturesque Androscoggin River against the background of the rocky Great Falls. 30-40 balloons are easily spotted each year, along with much revelry by way of a vibrant carnival, parade, food booths, craft stalls and music ranging from blues to jazz to oldies.

2. Owl-O-Ween Hot Air Balloon Festival

When: 4th Weekend in October

Where: Kennesaw State University Sports & Recreation Park, 20 miles north of downtown Atlanta

This 2-day family friendly balloon extravaganza has gone all out for the season: think jaw-dropping balloon glows, tethered balloon rides, trick or treating, harvest beer tents, a sports bar, an artist market, food trucks that will have you drooling in their wake, and roving entertainment, to just give you a gist of what they have in store.

3. Adirondack Balloon Festival

By day, youve got hot air balloon flights and tethered balloon rides, and after dusk, you can watch the Balloon Glow event at night, as well as the Tractor Parade, a pedal tractor pull and tractor demonstrations; the whole event concludes with gorgeous Alabama Jubilee Fireworks Spectacular to make for an experience youre unlikely to forget.

5. The Great Reno Balloon Race

The Great Reno Balloon Race is the big daddy of all hot air balloon races in the nation. Taking off in 1982 with 20 balloons, it today witnesses the flight of more than 100 balloons each year with about 140,000 visitors a year. One of their coolest features includes a Balloon Blackjack competition where pilots try to navigate the balloons over a giant pack of playing cards and bean bags are thrown from the basket to try to hit 21³.
