2016 brings with it many exciting promises and possibilities. Entertainment wise, there isn’t a month we’re not looking forward to. The awesomeness of 2015 continues and becomes even bigger and better in this lucky leap year. From the much touted Batman v Superman to the return of our favorite jungle boy Mowgli, I can barely contain my excitment!
These films are going to take us through not just an epic tale but also to new, exotic locations where the stories will be filmed and based. So strap on and hold on tight, this promises to be a rollercoaster ride!

Here’s where Hollywood is taking us in the most anticipated movies of 2016:

1. Independence Day Resurgence

Watch magic be recreated when a few ingenious men and women save our world from extinction with an epic defense program that is on a bigger scale than you ever imagined. Independence Day made us sit up on the edge of our seats in 1996 and it promises an even bigger bang two decades later. Parts of it have been filmed in Albuquerque, New Mexico and you can be sure that this city’s southern charm will shine through in the movie.

2. Doctor Strange

When you know Benedict Cumberbatch is starring in a Marvel movie, its reason enough to start salivating. Add to this a nail biting plot and iconic filming locations, we can hardly wait for this one. The movie revolves around Cumberbatch and his struggle after he loses his sense of touch. He discovers a healer in the Himalayas where he also learns about his psychic powers. The story is filmed in Kathmandu besides London, New York and Hong Kong. After 2015’s devastating earthquake, it will be great to see this gorgeous city in all its glory.

3. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Watch an epic adventure unfold as rebels set out to steal the plans for the Death Star in Rogue One. Parts of this galactic empire will be the serene backdrop of Maldives. Even though we’re not quite sure what part of space will be recreated here, we know that the stunning white sand beaches and azure blue waters of Maldives will be soothing to the eye.

4. Star Trek Beyond

Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto are drool worthy enough for us to wait eagerly for the latest installment of Star Trek. The movie will pick up from the brilliant storyline of the last franchise and take us to the magnificent landscape of Dubai in some of its glorious adventures. Although the film is shot primarily in a studio in Vancouver, Star Trek Beyond definitely has a dose of the exotic in its tale.

5. X Men: Apocalypse

The most powerful mutant from the X Men Universe, Apocalypse is worshipped as a god of this world. The movie revolves around his resurgence and contempt of the current world order. Watch how he builds an army of his own and Raven and Professor X come to mankind’s rescue in this iconic enterprise that is much awaited across the globe. Some parts of this tale were shot in Montreal ( you might be able to spot the John Abbott College Campus) and its picturesque surroundings.

6. Batman vs Superman: The Dawn of Justice

You’ve been talking about it for months now and 2016 will finally see this dream movie turn into reality. Batman v Superman is perhaps the most anticipated movie of this year. It traces the differences between Batman and Superman and the way they handle the looming threat that Lex Luthor poses to the world. Chicago’s uptown area features in some of the exciting scenes of this movie.

For all those who have read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Seth Grahame-Smith, this movie is going to transform this monumental mashup into an unforgettable celluloid story. The shooting for this movie took place in the countryside of England. Even if you haven’t read the book, the movie promises to change your perception about the 19th century Jane Austen classic.

One of my favorite mystery franchise, Now You See Me 2 is a movie that is going to be awaited by many fans across the world. Watch the comeback performance of the four Robin Hoods as they attempt to unravel the antics of a tech magnate. This heist is supposedly their biggest one ever. The movie has been shot in Asia’s answer to Vegas- Macau. Can’t wait for this one!

We shuddered with fear as Ed and Lorraine Warren tried to rescue a loving family from the clutches of the demon in Conjuring. We can’t wait to see what they uncover in the coming sequel of one of the most epic horror movies ever made. The movie will feature the city of London, especially the area of Enfield. Get ready for a good scream!
