North Island:

With the biggest number of beach resorts developed here, find the best of white sandy beaches and calm lagoon in the north island part.

Choisy Beach:

In the northwest region of Mauritius, you have the Choisy beach, the longest in Mauritius. If you are looking for swaying palm trees, white sand and crystal clear sea then this is the beach for you. Shaded by palm trees this beach is relatively isolated which provides a good opportunity for sunbathers. The lengthy beach has amazing facilities providing parasailing, water skiing, tube riding, paddleboards, and kayaking options. If you're staying anywhere from Trou Aux Biches to Grand Baie, this is definitely a prime beach to visit. Getting there will be your only issue. If you don't want to rent a car or scooter, consider a bicycle.

The Pamplemousses Botanical Gardens:

Choisy Beach

The Pamplemousses Botanical Gardens are definitely worth a visit. Named after the village Pamplemousses, this place is full of beautiful palm trees and water lilies. There are guides at the entrance (very cheap) and they tell you a lot of interesting facts about the history of the gardens and the different plants and trees. There is a large variety of unusual plants with the most famous being the giant Victoria Amazonian water lilies. The best is the ‘Talipot tree’ which flowers after fifty to sixty years and strangely dies just after. After walking through the passage bordered by palm trees you will discover a beautiful example of majestic architecture with the Chteau Mon Plaisir, the official Governor residence during the French period.

Caudan Waterfront:

One of my favourite places in Mauritius is the Caudan waterfront. There are three highlights of Port Louis - horse racing, the market and the shopping mall at the Caudan waterfront. This place has many attractions, from the history of the place itself and what we can find today. They also have a lovely casino geared to handle tourists with small bets for entertainment they also have high rollers in the evenings for big boys who love to gamble big. You can find shops, restaurants, and leisure for all types of people there. Along the water port, you can find some great restaurants, stores, and souvenirs. So sip on some coffee or beer and watch many ships pass by.

La Nicolire:

Whether you looking for a stroll or a light walk with serenity, then head towards this lake found on the higher grounds from the north vast planes. This place has numerous viewpoints and has become a favourite nature spot among locals.

La vallee des couleurs:

La vallee des couleurs reserve is home to various species of flora and fauna and a great place to enjoy selection of nature trips and fun activities. If you are a nature lover then it is quite a unique experience with the native fauno and flora that flourish in this park. Visitors are treated with a range of natural landscapes, including plateau, mountains, valleys, craters and crater-lakes.

South Island:

La Vanille Reserve des Mascareignes:

Once in a lifetime experience to walk with, stroke and feed giant tortoises. While other places have giant tortoises for display (Botanical Gardens and Coloured Earth) this is the only place where you can actually touch, pet and feed the tortoises. They have baby tortoise all the way to + 100-year-old ones and the setting is beautiful. Crocodile feeding time is 11:30 and really fun to watch; although it’s probably better in the summer months (due to them being cold-blooded). There are other animals to see including a fantastic insect exhibit, monkeys, iguanas, alligators, etc. There is a free 30 min tour they do a couple times a day and it was very informative.

Trou Aux Cerfs:

The crater of an extinct volcano, this is an Unspoilt and under-visited attraction in Mauritius. Beautiful, scenic and very well maintained around volcano and within crater itself. You won’t need much time here but it is worth a quick visit. The best part is the 180-degree view you get from the crater of the surrounding hills, mountains and the Port Louis area generally. Lots of selfish sticks being used!

Ganga Talao Grand Bassin:

One of my favourite places in Mauritius, located high up in the mountains is Grand Bassin. This is a lovely tranquil lake, which is surrounded by numerous statues of Hindu gods are surrounding the lake. You are bound to get very emotional here, the spirituality and aura around here fill you up. This is also being referred to as the ‘Ganga’ of Mauritius.

Ile Aux Cerf Island:

God created Ile Aux Cerfs and then paradise. Make your dream come true, visit this island before you die. If you want to go to Ile aux Cerfs, it is best to go by speed boat or catamaran. So go ahead and treat yourself with the best seafood there though a little bit expensive also you can play golf there this is heaven on earth. Experience a thrilling jetty ride across to the island of Ile Aux Cerf. Celebrate in the beauty of fine white sand and clear blue waters. The rest of your time here, enjoy at leisure and explore the various water sports activities, kayaking, parasailing just to name a few.

Stark Gris Gris Beach:

Gris Gris is the southernmost point of the Mauritius main island. There is a sea cliff with a beautiful view of the blue sea. Gris Gris is an island paradise, is well worth seeing, just for sake of the contrast. In the height of the summer, its breezy setting would also be a welcome respite from the humidity, and the almost aggressively verdant vegetation soothes the eye in a landscape of startling sunshine and beachscapes. Nicknamed as the "crying rocks", this beach is unlike any other. You can sit here hours engrossed in its tranquillity.
If you are visiting Gris Gris, please be aware that the winds can be strong, and the grass can be slippery after rain.

Underwater Waterfall, Mauritius

Well, its not really a waterfall. Its only another optical illusion. But its seriously cool, so cool that we had to put it on our list! This stunning illusion is created by sand and silt that has deposited on an underwater slope. This waterfall is an absolute must-see!
