This ethereal, white marble tomb was built by Shah Jahan for his wife, Mumtaz. And the monument epitomizes the love affair between a couple like no other. Located in the city of Agra, Taj Mahal has three entry gates – Southern, Eastern and Western. While the white domed marble mausoleum is the central focus, the Taj complex has much more outlying structure worth checking out.

2. Kerala Backwaters

The Kerala backwaters are a series of lagoons, lakes, and canals close to the Arabian Sea coast of Kerala. A visit to the mesmerizing backwaters of Kerala is like entering into a time warp. Complete with exotic homestays, surprising little Tibetan settlement, rich biodiversity, and elephant camps, Coorg is almost synonymous with romance. 4. Lakshadweep

Located off the western coast of India, Lakshadweep islands are a string of 36 coral islands. Small in size but large in beauty, Lakshadweep is one of a kind. While not all islands can be visited, 10 of these islands are inhabited by fishermen and can be visited. Some of the top islands include Agatti, Minicoy, Kadmat, Kavaratti and Bangaram. Now, if you are visiting with your newfound love, Lakshadweep is perfect for you. Swim in lagoons, lay on the beach, sip on coconut water, go snorkelling to see the corals, or just chill. 5. Manali, Himachal Pradesh

Manali, amidst its mountain slopes and natural beauty, is fantastic. Actually, it’s much more than that. It’s a place right outta fairy tale! With its views of Dhauladhar and Pir Panjal ranges, paths filled with flowers, green Beas valley, conifer-cloaked green hills, and gorgeous retreats make this Himachali town a year-round magnet for couples.

6. Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir

The summer capital of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir may not be a popular choice with the couples but let that not deter you. Situated in the Kashmir Valley and on the banks of River Jhelum, this city is ringed by the Himalayas while the pristine Dal Lake dominates the city’s landscape. While here you can take a ‘shikara’ boat ride along the Dal Lake, sip on some ‘kawah’ on the Chinar Island, or walk through the maple tree-filled gardens, Srinagar gives way to plenty of romantic chill-out opportunities. Sadly, communal tensions are prevalent in most parts of the city, but that doesn’t take away the fact that Srinagar is indeed a ‘heaven on earth!’ If you do plan on visiting, make sure you do your research well.
