Have you made a bucket list yet? Travel bucket lists are becoming increasingly popular due to the power of social media and Instagram fuelling our desire more than ever for travel. The world offers many beautiful destinations to discover, endless adventures and breath-taking sights. Narrowing it down to just one list is hard, but we’ve collated our top five bucket list attractions to get out there and see at least once in your lifetime.

1. Machu Picchu, Peru

You can’t have a travel bucket list that doesn’t include Machu Picchu. Perched in the mountains, this secret city does not disappoint. It’s best to view this on foot, and you don’t necessarily have to partake in the full Inca trail (which FYI, you need a permit for). Hikes vary in length so it’s largely dependent on your physical ability. Half a million visitors a year can’t be wrong, get out there and experience this legendary slice of history for yourself.

2. The Great Barrier Reef, Australia

The iconic Great Barrier Reef is one of the world’s incredible areas of natural beauty but it’s under threat. It’s the largest living thing on Earth and is even visible from Space! This eco-system is home to thousands of species including coral, fish, molluscs, turtles, dolphins and sharks. The reef was severely bleached by heatwaves in 2016/17 causing half of the coral to die, although this was a devastating blow, the good news is it does appear to be fighting back.

3. The Grand Canyon, Arizona

There’s only one word to describe the Grand Canyon and that’s ‘breath-taking’. You’ll have seen many photos online of this stunning national park but nothing compares to seeing it with your very own eyes in the flesh. The layered bands of red rock reveal millions of years of geological history and a truly remarkable vision. Many decide to fly into Las Vegas and book an excursion to the Grand Canyon. If you use a flight scanner you can bag flights to Vegas for a bargain.

4. Big Sur, California

We’re staying in the USA for this next one, the Big Sur is a rugged stretch of California coastline best known for its seaside cliffs, outstanding views and winding roads. Driving this isn’t for the faint-hearted but it is worth it for the incredible scenery. Big Sur is a sparsely populated area, and you’ll struggle to get much of a phone signal! Instead, you can spend a few days hiking, camping, surfing and enjoying nature at its best.

5. Colosseum, Rome

Rome is an incredible city and bursting with fascinating ancient history, it’s also home to the Colosseum. This is the largest amphitheatre ever built, constructed somewhere between 70 and 80 A.D. The building consisted of over 80 entrances to welcome up to 50,000 spectators who would come to watch gladiators and animals fight. You can take a tour of the Colosseums underground passages where the fighters were kept, waiting to meet their fate. There’s a reason this attraction is one of the most popular in the world, and is well worth a spot on your travel bucket list.

There are so many sights to see in this world but not enough time! Other attractions that are truly incredible and worthy of a trip include the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Taj Mahal in India and the Great Wall of China. What’s at the top of your travel bucket list?
