The month of December evokes the holiday spirit in all of us because it means that Christmas is approaching and soon it will be a new year. Turkeys are eaten, Christmas cakes are baked, and trees are decorated. Children hang socks at night in the hope of Christmas gifts from Santa Claus. It is a time of merriment and sharing the joy with friends and family.

Christmas is a universal festive affair irrespective of religion. Churches are visited where hymns and carols are sung. Parades and tree-lighting ceremonies are organized. There is music, and dance performances hosted, and people gather and celebrate together with their loved ones.

Christmas in Miami is not cold or frosty. Being close to the beach, Miami celebrates Christmas in the sun-soaked way. Visitors can bask in the sun, soak themselves in its warmth in the daytime and enjoy Christmas lightings from the evening.

So, if you happen to visit Miami in Christmas, here is a list of things you can do to make your stay memorable:

Celebrate Christmas at Bayfront Park

The annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony takes place at Bayfront Park, Miami. The fifty-foot giant Christmas tree is adorned with thousands of Christmas lights. The service is shortly followed by a choir and various musical performances. This too is a traditional event in Miami, and one must visit it.

Visit Santa’s Enchanted Forest

Santa’s Enchanted Forest is an event at Miami’s holiday-themed park. It opens from November and is there until December. There are music and dance performances, animal shows, thrilling rides and carnivals. The place is beautifully decorated with Christmas lights and is very appealing to the children especially. It is a famous event in Miami, and indeed, a must visit.

Participate in Christmas at the beach

The beach too is very well decorated for Christmas. Unlike the frosty Christmas, it is a somewhat comfortable celebration in Miami. Visitors can enjoy the sun and the sea along with the festivities.

Attend The Nutcracker Ballet

‘The Nutcracker’ is a beautiful ballet which is intrinsic to the Christmas spirit. It is performed at Miami City Ballet during Christmas time. It is a good ballet for children as well as adults to watch together. The play is mainly conducted in December and tickets are booked prior to that.

Enjoy the Zoo lights in Miami

Hundreds of lights adorn the zoo in Christmas time. Some of them are used to decorate trees while others are in the shapes of zoo animals like tigers, lions, giraffes, etc. There are a number of activities in the zoos at this time for children like carousel rides, photos with Santa and even a snowman’s river-boat ride. This event goes on throughout the month of December on every Friday and Saturday.

Be a part of Christmas at Lion’s Country Safari

Visitors can spend Christmas at Lion’s Country Safari which is America’s first cageless zoo. It is exhilarating for the children too.  This presents a unique opportunity to the visitors to get out of their cars and catch close glimpse of chimps.

Attend Christmas at Miami Children’s Museum

During the month of December a large number of events are organized at the museum to welcome the new year and enjoy the holidays. Full of fun and festive spirit, all the events are full of interesting activities for children. There are a number of ‘do yourself’ activities and competitions to be a part of. Santa Claus also pays a visit and gives gifts to the children.

In order to evoke the Christmas spirit, Santa Claus too comes to visit the chimpanzees and gives them gifts. This place is worth a visit and tickets need to be booked prior.

Relax at Holiday Evening at Vizcaya Museum & Gardens

Vizcaya Museum too is all decked up in holiday décor for the festivities around this time. People come to enjoy an evening full of live music, music performances, hot chocolate, appetizers and desserts. It promises a peaceful evening.

Christmas fosters the spirit of sharing and giving and celebrating togetherness. Visitors can try out the Thanksgiving menus offered at the different restaurants as well as the list of events mentioned above.

Thus, Christmas at Miami is a grand affair and a bit unique due to varied weather conditions. Nevertheless, the events are quite promising and ensure memorable experiences with family and loved ones.
