History of Mother’s Day

The Mother’s Day is celebrated in the whole world on different days from March till May. The roots of the Mother’s Day celebration come from the ancient Greek who celebrated the day by celebrating their mother goddesses Cybele and Rhea. However, in Christianity, the “Mothering Sunday” is supposed to be the earliest precedent of Mother’s Day.  It is not a holiday to honor your mother but to honor Motherhood of all kinds. The American Mother’s Day was established by Anna Jarvis in the year 1908. It was officially considered a holiday in the year 1914. With Mother’s Day became a national holiday, its commercialization started. Anna Jarvis was not in favor of this and later started a campaign against the Mother’s Day. She fought till her death to remove the day from the America’s Calendar but it was not possible. Hence, we see the Mother’s Day holiday being celebrated in all parts of America as well as the world.
