Having spent most of our lives in Mumbai, my partner and I have always cherished being around water- from Marine drive and Bandstand to Versova beach and Juhu beach. Sitting beside water has been our favorite escapade from the chaos of this city. Our mutual admiration for water made us zero in on the surreal backwaters of "God's Own Country", Kerala to bring in our anniversary. Since we could take only 2 days off from our work, we booked the private overnight backwater cruise tour with a romantic candlelight dinner from Mumbai to Kumarakom.
The tour cost depended on the number of travelers and was as follows:
- For 1 traveler- INR 48,420 (USD 660.00) per person
- For 8 travelers- INR 24,245 (USD 385.00) per person
More the number of travelers, lesser the cost, with the maximum number of people being 8 and minimum being 1.
The tour cost mentioned above included:
- Both way air tickets in Economy Class
- Overnight accommodation in a houseboat
- All taxes, fees, service charges, and handling charges
- Lunch, dinner and next day breakfast
- Travel to and from the Mumbai Airport
- Travel from Cochin to Kumarakom and vice versa
- Mineral Water throughout the Travel
The water enthusiasts in us couldn’t wait to explore this unique experience of literally living on the water and I must say, we had the time of our lives on this mini trip. Here is a little sneak-peek into our mini vacation!
1. The lavish Journey from our home to the houseboat
We were picked up from our home around 8:00 am and were glad to see a luxury car for our journey to the airport. Music lovers that we are, grooving to popular tunes on our 2-hour flight from Mumbai to Cochin was obvious.
The views en-route our 1.5-hour ride from Cochin to Kumarakom were scenic and the driver was cooperative enough to let us take a halt and store memories into our cameras we will cherish forever.
Note: Your pick up and drop timings will vary depending upon your location and flight timings.
2. Our romantic escape living on the Houseboat
As soon as we arrived, we were immediately intrigued by the beauty of houseboats. We realized how under-rated Kumarakom was. At least we weren’t anticipating it to be as splendid as it was.
The sunset and its manifestation from between the water satisfied the water lover in us.
Mesmerized by the beauty, my Instagram was brimming with pictures of the houseboat and the breathtaking views.
3. The foodie in us was treated to our heart’s content
We were served 3 meals on our trip and I must say, each of them was a treat for our taste buds. The romantic candle-light dinner was well arranged and made our anniversary celebration even more special.
4. Our sad but rejuvenated return back to home
Leaving beautiful places has always been tough for us- the blues sink in. But the trip rejuvenated us, and we were all set to get back to our daily routine. The journey from the houseboat started at about 10 in the morning and we were home by 3:00 pm. It was comfortably planned to make sure we were not left exhausted at the end of the trip.
Our work lives didn’t give us time enough to plan a trip, so we thought of trying this pre-planned tour. And we did not regret this decision at a single point on our trip. We got to do a lot on this mini vacation that our busy schedules don’t allow. This trip brought us closer, and we are destined to return. You should most definitely go for this overnight backwater cruise tour with a romantic candlelight dinner from Mumbai to Kumarakom if you have less time but wish to have a gala time creating cherishable memories.
