Talk of Tamhini Ghat and the image of waterfalls with dense green mountains in the backdrop flashes across my mind. You will see nature in a way that is intense and ferocious and the same time, extremely mystifying and calming. During the monsoons, this place comes alive with its many waterfalls, streams and vibrant shades of greens. As the clouds descend down on the roads, a drive to Tamhini Ghat will help you reconnect with nature, leaving you feeling absolutely blissful.

As the name suggests, Tamhini Ghat is a mountainous pass that connects Mulshi (in Pune District) and Kolad (in Raigad District). Located along the mighty Western Ghats of Maharashtra, just ahead of Mulshi Dam, this place is blessed with abundant natural beauty. 54 kilometres from the city of Pune, the drive leading up to the Tamhini Ghat is an adventure in itself. From Chandani Chowk in Pune, continue driving on Paud/Mulshi Road. As you cross the Tata Power Solar plant, you will have reached Tamhini Ghat Road. The view just keeps getting better and better as you move ahead.

Weekends are extremely crowded at Tamhini Ghat. You will find many families and bikers making their way to this place. But let the crowds not disappoint you. Get your friends and family together and visit Tamhini Ghats during monsoons and you will find yourself on cloud 9, literally and figuratively. On your way, you will come across many cascading waterfalls that fall off the tall mountain cliffs. You can park your car/bike on the sides of the road and take a stroll along the mountains, getting drenched in the rains while listening to the gushing waterfalls.

Things to keep in mind while visiting

There are no eateries around this place so I would suggest that you bring a packed lunch, or head out to the nearest village where you can enjoy some hot and fresh local food like gavran chicken, pithla and bhakri. The road is tricky as the small streams of water bring a lot of rubble and slush that makes driving here a challenge. It is also advisable that you carry a rain poncho if you plan to play under the waterfalls.
