The states in our country are always in the spotlight. But, what do you know about our union territories? These small parts of the nation have tales unknown to the masses. Here's a list of all things unique to the union territories of India.

1. Yay! Fish die of old age here

In the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, fishing for commercial purpose is banned. Thus, fish live their full life span instead of ending up in someone's stomach.

2. No luck for number 13

In Chandigarh, there is no sector 13. Spooky? Fear not. This is because of the layout of the city in which the sum of adjacent sectors is divisible by 13, on any road dividing the sectors, as well as parallel to Madhya Marg.

3. There's a museum dedicated to Toilets

The Sulabh International Museum of Toilets in New Delhi, is all about just toilets. The evolution of toilets and how hygeine and sanitation has been tackled over the ages, are focused on in this unique museum.

4. Lakshadweep could have belonged to Pakistan

With the Muslim majority in the archipelago at the time of independance, Lakshadweep might as well have been claimed by our neighbours. But the foresight of Sardar Patel and quick action of Indian Navy led to the island being peacefully claimed by India, before Pakistan could step foot on it.

5. Chandigarh is a human body

French architect Le Corbusier designed the city in the shape of a human body, with the ‘Head’ being Capitol Complex in Sector 1, the ‘Heart' being City Centre in Sector-17, the 'Lungs' are the leisure valley, as well as, the open space and greenery in the city, the ‘Circulatory System’ being the 7V’s road network, and ‘Brain’ is the Cultural and Educational Institutions.

6. From Pondy to space

Beyond the beautiful French heritage, Puducherry, fondly known as Pondy, is a pioneer in the IT sector. Lenovo's ThinkPad laptops, which have also been used in space, are manufactured in this gorgeous union territory.

7. It's spicy in Delhi!

8. When civilians kicked the Portugese out

Dadra and Nagar Haveli got independance from the Portugese without the help of any national armed forces. It was a group of civilians and nationalist organisations that took control back of their territory, after attacking a police station in Dadra and making them surrender.

9. Andaman and Nicobar Islands are worth Rs. 20

10. No country for girls here!

Daman and Diu have the lowest sex ratio in all of India at 618 girls to a 1000 boys. Such a shame for such a stunning territory.
