There are some things a meticulous traveller does; recording his travels in a journal for instance. And this traveller makes sure s/he saves and preserves all his tickets, stubs of an event and even boarding passes. Now that’s an ideal scenario.

But for most of us, we are too busy! Most of our baggage tags are still on, the tickets are lying in our travel carry-on and our boarding passes? They are simply dumped down in our hotel room, the airport trolley or even worse, in the seat pouch of our plane. And we all think that’s totally normal and harmless.

So, here’s an alarm that will warn you why saving your boarding pass or completely destroying it is a must-do.

In a recent study by ‘Krebs on Security’, boarding passes are a wildcard entry to the personal information of the traveller and can be easily misused by using simple apps.

How does this happen?

The barcode on the boarding pass carries crucial personal information of the traveller including his/her personal phone number, home address, email id and at times even bank account number.

Few airlines make sure they encrypt the barcode to make the reading a tad bit difficult but of course, tedious hacking can reveal the information ultimately.

Forensic expert for CBS, Winston Krone also seconded the fact and has warned about the potential damage a boarding pass can do.

Next time you think of throwing away your boarding pass, think again!

Travel journals aren’t that bad after all! And if at all you want to throw away your boarding pass, make sure you shred it!

It's better to be safe than sorry!
