Where to Stay in Guilin, China?


  • Eva Inn: 66 Binjiang Road, Xiufeng (near the Sheraton), With great views of the Li River and Elephant Trunk Hill, this locally owned Guilin hotel is very popular. Always ask for a discount when booking.
  • Shangri-La: 11 Huna Cheng Bei Er Lu, Ridiculously over the top, the hotel features a waterfall which features in the Guinness Book of Records. All the usual mod cons of a five star hotel too.

Budget accommodation in Guilin:

  • Backstreet International Youth Hostel: 3 Renmin Lu (opposite Sheraton Hotel), This hostel features as recommended option in the Lonely Planet guide to Guilin, and can even arrange free pickup if you let them know. They are in the city centre with easy access to all sites, and can arrange tour packages at reasonable prices for those things a little further afield.
  • Breeze Inn: South Zhongshan Road, Situated in a quiet back street you'll get a good night's sleep here, and there are discounts for YHIF card holders – but prices double during major festivals.


Don't forget that China is famous for its tea, more than its beer and while a tourist destination bars are a little more basic than you may be used to back home. Guilin's local cuisine tends to be quite spicy (lots of chilli) and focused around fish caught locally, a word of warning much of China's fresh water fish catch contains heavy metals consume at your own risk.

  • Jufulin: 10 Zhengyang Road, Very popular, so it can get a bit crowded. But authentically Chinese with plenty of options.
  • Rosemary Cafe: 1 Yiren Road, If you fancy something a little more Western, you could do worse than this pleasant cafe with Wholemeal bread sandwiches.
  • Islam Restaurant: 55 Xiheng Road, Halal food, great atmosphere, and a fantastic way to experience Muslim food in China.
