- Pousada Casa Dos Contos: This hotel does not start to make a good first impression until you actually get to your room. Make sure to ask for a room with great views.
- Pousada Villa Verde: You will find excellent service at this little hostel and inn. Great views of the mountains.
Mid-range
- Pousada Lacos de Minas: This refurbished colonial building is not too far from the main square. The breakfast is Brazilian, and simple.
- Pousada Minas Gerais: The historic center is a five minute walk uphill from the hotel. Free parking. The staff is cheerful.
- Hotel Solar de Maria: The hotel is cute and romantic and a favorite with couples.
Luxury
- Pousada Classica: A comfortable and reasonably priced hotel in a good location near the main square. The slightly expensive price tag is for the hotel's old world charm.
- Pousada Do Mondego: Not only is this hotel close to the main square, it is also close to the main street - the Rua Direita.
- Pousada Solar da Opera: The hotel is basically an old renovated house, and thus carries great historical charm. The atmosphere is very informal, which is pleasant.
PLACES TO EAT
- O Passo: upscale Italian fine dining restaurant and wine bar. The decoration is eclectic and unique. Try and get seat at the balcony overlooking the garden.
- Escada Abaixo: This is a place you come to for relaxation. Don't expect the service to be quick. However the finger food is terrific, as are the Beers and the cocktails.
- Bene da Flauta: This is fine international dining. The service is extremely efficient. Try and get a seat by the window, so that you can have a look down the valley.
- Pastificio Mamma Roma: A small and cozy restaurant that probably serves the best pasta in town. And the wine isn't bad either.
- Restaurante Contos de Reis: A Brazilian buffet in a historical building. There is a lot of meat. Plus, the food is very typical of the state.
