The comedians were pretty funny but the bouncer was way too strict. I understand that there cannot be private conversations but we saw a group of guys next to us get kicked out for one quick, quiet comment to each other. It's It honestly felt more like a classroom with a teacher looking for reasons to kick people out of his room than a fun night at a comedy club. Go somewhere else and have a more relaxed experience.
Was having a good time. Then one comedian Mike Cannon brought up Autism. I booed. He engaged. Then told the bouncer i talked too much and keep it down. He brought up my sexuality (Gay). I was fine and cool. But then was told by the bouncer I'm not welcome. My partner and I left. Mike Cannon still had to hive insults as I left on my own accord. I had a good time never heckled but paid a price for interacting. Know your customers. You are lucky to be in business and you let one guy ruin my night and my husband's. Thanks guys. You suck.
This was my first visit to this comedy club. Like most, they have a 2 item per person minimum. They offer a non alcoholic option as well. Super friendly host and bartender, made us feel very welcome. They have a really cool concept... you only pay the cover once, then you can come back any time (just call ahead to make sure open seats are available). They give you a return ticket to present. Definitely worth the visit. The host remembered our names on the way out. Top notch service.
The New York Comedy Club hosted an open mic night during the week, which I attended. I arrived an hour early and signed up to perform. The comedy club charged the other comedians and myself to perform; $3 for 5 minutes. To my surprise there was no audience, by the time I got to perform there were only 3 people watching. It was fun. All in good spirit. Comedians always seem to form a good community.
I went toe NY Comedy Club for the first, and I won't be going back. Pluses: We saw at least 10 comedians in our 2.5 hours with no breaks Minuses: Some of the comedians were absolutely terrible. One comedian wasn't even funny, she went off on an angry rant about how society treats her unfairly and how terrible humanity is. The next comedian on stage made fun of her as soon as she stepped off. Not a nice environment to be in. The required 2 drink minimum, if you get the cheapest drinks on the menu, after the included tax and tip will cost you about $4. The water bottle "package" is $17 ($22 after required tax and tip). I'm fine paying $12 for a drink, but they server crappy white wine served in a cheap $0.25 plastic cup. The space itself is not nice either. You'd expect a theater feel with wood and velvet curtains, instead, you're in a big cold room that feels like a warehouse. I really like Comedy Cellar in west village, I will be sticking to that location from now on. I wish i could say what you pay for is what you get, but in this case, this place is neither cheap nor fun. My recommendation would be that they screen comedians more, pick fewer of them and higher quality. I'm ok taking a 5 minute break between shows if the shows are good.
