Nature 5 stars, management 1 star. I love Houston Arboretum. It is one of my favorite walking places in Houston. With ongoing renovation and changes it is very hard not to notice that this non-profit organization is becoming more like a pro-profit country club. Parking fee charges = entrance fee = not a non- profit. After 5 pm no lights in toilets????
Beautiful country woods atmosphere in the middle of the city. My wife and I and our six kids walked the outer loop with a pediatric wheelchair and double stroller with no issues. Here on a Saturday, so the trails were a little busy, but no issues. Dogs on a leash are welcomed and parking is currently free (although there are signs stating "Paid parking coming soon"). Great for a family fun picnic/walk day.
A nice place to take a walk. A nice network of trains which circle the property allow you to easily customize your walk and you are never very far from the main building and parking lot. Be warned however it can be hard to find a parking place during weekend with nice weather.
The Houston Arboretum is always a fun place to go for a long walk. You feel like you’re in a forest miles away from the city whilst still being inside the loop! Unfortunately the construction takes away from the feeling of being outside of the city, but hopefully that will wrap of soon. The trails are well maintained and scenic. Great for light hiking, bird watching, picnicking, and exploring.
Depending on the season the arboretum as it’s name implies is a lovely wooded reserve. It’s a nice quick hike when you need a nature fix in the middle of the city. Only complaint is that it’s very easy to get lost if you’re not familiar so it would be great if they could improve wayfinding.
