How often is a royal couple gifted a palace of their very own on the occasion of their marriage by the people they rule? But that’s just what the Municipality of Aarhus did. The Royal Family continues to use the palace as a summer home to this date. The palace itself isn’t open to the public but the park is, at least during the months when the royal family isn’t residing. When the family IS staying there, you’ll be able to catch the changing of the guards ceremony at 12. The 32-acre garden was done in English landscape style with sculptures scattered amidst decorative trees, ponds, and shrubberies. It’s a lovely place for a hangout, especially thanks to the views over the bay.

Not too far away from the royal residence is the Aarhus Memorial Park, where a monument commemorates the 4140 Danes that lost their lives in World War One. The park itself serves a nice gathering ground for the locals and it doesn’t matter what the season is: it’s picturesque at all times. Bring your own charcoal – they have a BBQ setup! Check out the Japanese cherry grove, the mirror pond and the various avenues.

  • Very beautiful quiet relaxing place to visit. Lovely garden very simple house for the Danish queen.

  • I was walking only in the park. We really like it. Were different kinds of flowers and plantings, interesting sculptures. We had a good time. Beautiful castle, well preserved.

  • Castle was not open on this particular day, but the surrounding park is excellent for a quiet walk. Lots of art works, flowers, fruit trees and beautiful views to be enjoyed.

  • ~15 min away from central Aarhus, located next to a beautiful beach, and animals are really friendly, but they only care about food, so bring some apples and carrots. I also want to warn people that they shouldn't feed deer with spaghetti, because it makes them go crazy.

  • Flot holdt slot, i fine omgivelser. Kan anbefale at gå en lille tur rundt om slottet og se haven.
