Castle Fraser - Review

This stunning castle is located around 25 kilometers away from the city. Till date it is considered as the lavish castle of Scottish baronial tower houses. It was built in 1575 by Michael Fraser, the 6th laired. The unique feature of the castle is its ‘z-pattern’. Within the castle, you can see decorated Great Hall, family portraits, centuries old furniture, curtains and many such important belongings of the Fraser family.

The garden area laid in front of the castle, adds up to its beauty. After visiting the castle, take a stroll in the garden to see beautiful shrubs and flowers plants.

Castle Fraser , Aberdeen Reviews

  • Good castle with turrets which means lots of stairs up one side and down the other. Not suitable for wheelchairs or buggies. Although one if the previous owners had a selection of wooden legs and got round the castle fine. At least it has banisters. Tea room served nice food. All the staff in the castle, tea room and shop were friendly and helpful. I like that they wear the Frazer tartan sashes. I am sure the gardens would be lovely in the summer when in full bloom.

  • Plenty to see in the grounds of this historic site. Quirky looking fairytale style castle. Unfortunately access to the property was closed on the Tuesday we visited. It only opens Wednesday - Sundays. We should have checked before we visited! Still very enjoyable gardens and walks to be enjoyed.

  • We have been here on numerous occasions as we live near. Like all NT Scotland properties it's a good place to visit with history in mind. Family friendly too. Nice walks here and pretty walked garden along with a children's activity area. Great place for picnic's too. Plenty parking & good toilets. The volunteer staff are always approachable and friendly.

  • You get to see a substantial amount of this castle. Lots of interesting things to see and find out the stories behind them. Helpful guides dotted around but not a "guided" tour. Very enjoyable.

  • A brilliant castle and estate. Epic views from the top of the tower. Has a lovely kids woodland area with a fun wooden xylophone, and an idyllic bird watching cabin. The cafe is great too, with excellent service and food. The toilets could be improved. Firstly some signage, as it’s unclear which doors actually are toilets, and secondly the large holes between some of the cubicles make for awkward transfer of noise. But I would not hesitate to recommend as a great family day out.
