There was a time when step wells were part of the household system in the city. The water of these wells, dug deep in the ground, was accessible by steps that were built alongside it, providing it with its name. Today, though the culture has ended, you can still witness such step wells in many homes and some public areas of the city. Among all, Ambapur Stepwell is a much recognised one and popular tourist destination. The place was established in 15th century by Queen Rudabai Vaghela and boasts of a beautiful amalgamation of Indian and Islamic architecture. Built as a resting place for folks, the Vav as it is locally called has intricate carvings throughout the structure. You can come here to admire its engineering, beauty and designs that will literally take you back in times. For those with an affinity for history, will surely like it here.

  • Very nice carving. Beautiful step well. But very dirty. Archeology department of Gujarat should take care of it. Or the Gram panchayat of ambapur village should take care and clean up the place.

  • Good archaeological place. But dirty. Not well maintained

  • Best place for photography. No permission needed.

  • it's well designed step well with ''jharokha'' where you can set and get complete view of step well but bit messy due to penguins, monkeys and dogs

  • Nice Stepwell Needs Protection By Archeological Department
