Jama Masjid - Review
Jama Masjid, which means the Friday mosque, is the most fantastic mosque of Ahmedabad. It lies in the old city part of Ahmedabad, opposite the Mahatma Ganti Road, on the eastern side of Maidan-i-shah or Teen Darwaza. It was part of a major plan designed by the Mughal Emperor Sultan Ahmed Shah. The western side of the mosque has the tombs of the emperor, his son and his grandson, Ahmed Shah Rauza. Nearby are the tombs of the queens known as the Rani Ka Hazira.
The mosque is built on a rectangular area. It has three entrances, one at the center of each side. The three sides are lined by gardens and the fourth side is used for worship and prayer purposes. In the center of the mosque, is a rectangular ablution. The prayer room is also rectangular with four domes. It is of an Indo-Saracenic architecture style. Some of the central parts of the mosque have lotus structures like the beautiful Jain temple styles. Some pillars even have reference of the bells of Hindu temples.
These are carved on the pillars that are shown hanging from chains. The open courtyard has classic marble flooring with fantastic paintings of Arabic calligraphy work. The whole monument is built of yellow sandstone and has exquisite carvings on all parts. There are 260 columns supporting the 15 domes in the main prayer hall. There is also some very pretty lattice craftwork done on the minarets remaining after the earthquake of 1819.

Jama Masjid, Ahmedabad Reviews
3)In Gujarati; Jama Masjid (literally Friday Mosque), also known as Jami or Jumma Mosque, is the most splendid mosque of Ahmedabad, built in 1424 during the reign of Ahmed Shah I. Lying in the old walled city, the mosque is situated outside Bhadra Fort area, along the south side of the road extending from Teen Darwaza to Manek Chowk.The inscription on the mihrab commemorates the inauguration of the mosque on January 4, 1424 by Sultan Ahmad Shah I. The mosque was originally intended only for private use of the sultans.
This place is not accessible by car! The historic mosque with its large and impressive court is really nice. There are always friendly people to show you around (though their English might be very limited). Unfortunately this place it is not very photogenic.
Nice space intricate panel work in front of masjid.....The open Courtyard amid crazy Lal darwaza bazar is a blessing for photographers
Right in the centre of the old city. Need to walk a bit to find the entrance. Amazing structure. Very well preserved. But encroachment of small businesses alongside the walls of the structure would damage the structure soon.
Such a great place for praying allah.. it gives peace of mind to sit there for only 10 minutes alone.
