About Jama Masjid, Ahmedabad
Jama Masjid, which means the Friday mosque, is the most fantastic mosque of Ahmedabad. It lies in the old city part of Ahmedabad, opposite the Mahatma Ganti Road, on the eastern side of Maidan-i-shah or Teen Darwaza. It was part of a major plan designed by the Mughal Emperor Sultan Ahmed Shah. The western side of the mosque has the tombs of the emperor, his son and his grandson, Ahmed Shah Rauza. Nearby are the tombs of the queens known as the Rani Ka Hazira.
The mosque is built on a rectangular area. It has three entrances, one at the center of each side. The three sides are lined by gardens and the fourth side is used for worship and prayer purposes. In the center of the mosque, is a rectangular ablution. The prayer room is also rectangular with four domes. It is of an Indo-Saracenic architecture style. Some of the central parts of the mosque have lotus structures like the beautiful Jain temple styles. Some pillars even have reference of the bells of Hindu temples.
These are carved on the pillars that are shown hanging from chains. The open courtyard has classic marble flooring with fantastic paintings of Arabic calligraphy work. The whole monument is built of yellow sandstone and has exquisite carvings on all parts. There are 260 columns supporting the 15 domes in the main prayer hall. There is also some very pretty lattice craftwork done on the minarets remaining after the earthquake of 1819.

Jama Masjid, Ahmedabad Reviews
Awesome Masjid... It's got such a history and very ancient and of great significance... Great construction... It's got 300+ pillars and the window construction is awesome... The only heart breaking factor is that, all the surrounding walls are used be people to construct their houses!!!
A beautiful Masjid and a central attraction of the old heritage city of Ahmedabad built by Ahmed Shah, reflecting his tolerant and absorbent nature in its Architectural influence from Jain and Hindu temple Architecture. It also includes a space inside the mosque for women to worship, which in those days was forbidden.
Beautiful peaceful big masjid at the center of the city. If one stayed in Ahmedabad for a year or so and likes history then must to visit place.
Built on the ruins of a Jain Temple, the beautiful mosque is the best example of Indo-Sarcenic architecture. Yello sand Stone and Marble stone is used in the making of the mosque. Hauz e Wazu is in the central square of the mosque. Inside carving is amazing. Standing on 256 pillars which are sqare.
Great structure. Holy place in a heart of city. Construction is 600 years old. Has other heritage structures like raja ka hajira and rani ka hajira nearby.
