This is one of the finest mosques in Gujarat and in the whole country as well. This mosque is famous especially for its mesh designs intricately done on the 10 large windows. This mosque was established by a slave of Sultan Ahmed Shah, named SidiSaiyad and thus, it was named after him.

This mosque is located near the famous LalDarwaza in Ahmedabad and was constructed long time ago in the year 1573. The monument is famous worldwide for its splendid architecture and interior designing. The front wall is carved with pretty miniature geometric patterns and also has many floral motifs on the wall. Since, it was a monument of the Mughal period, so obviously has the traditional essence of the designs. The two parts jutting out from the center have stone slabs with beautiful carvings of crawling trees and also an exclusive palm tree. This lattice work is the unofficial symbol of the culture of Ahmedabad and also the inspiration behind the Institute of Management in Ahmedabad.

The central window of the arch is not as beautiful as the other parts and seems to be completed in a hurry. It shows the decline of the Mughal Empire at this time and the invasion of other clans into this region.

* The facts given above are based on traveler data on TripHobo and might vary from the actual figures
  • Very serene place, though in the middle of a busy market place. It is well maintained. The filigree work of the windows is breathtakingly beautiful. Very intricate work. Rightly recognised all over the world. It's worth visiting.

  • It holds a very sentimental value for Indians. One of the biggest reason for Ahmedabad to get declared as a Heritage City. A must visit place. It's in the center of a busy road, but it's very peaceful inside. The carving of original gratings are so mesmerizing. Don't enter in the mosque in shorts/skirts. It's a mosque where people pray, hence it is better to speak softly and enjoy the view peacefully.

  • It's awesome. Spiritual.. marvelous.. beautiful.. great piece of Indian art. Love the place.

  • Small yet intricately beautiful Mosque amidst the crowded roads of Ahmedabad. The guide mentioned it to be 500yr old building. Famous for beautiful windows/ventilators carved out of a single rock are the eye catchers of this mosque.

  • Very interesting architecture.... only saw it from the outside. The "Tree of Life" window was very interesting. I've never seen reference to it in any other mosques I have visited.
