Lad Khan Temple is one of the oldest temples in Karnataka, constructed in the year 5th BC. It is a wondrous specimen of Chalukyan Architecture situated in Aihole, and is home to several historical monuments. It is a temple dedicated to the Hindu lord Shiva, constructed Panchayatana style, with a Shiva Linga in the inner sanctum, and a Nandi statue facing it. One peculiar feature of this temple is that it starts with a rectangular shape, and ends with a square shape. It is named after a Muslim prince, Lad Khan, who resided in the complex of the temple for some time. Interesting, isn’t it? A Hindu temple named after a Muslim prince, this can happen only in India.
