Zoo Ave - Review
Located a little way off from Alajuela, the Zoo Ave is worth the drive. One of the best things about Zoo Ave is that the ticket proceeds go towards the rehabilitation of the premises and its inhabitants.Visited mostly for the zoo’s impressive repertoire of over 100 species of birds, enjoying the marvelous space of 14 hectares that’s been allotted to them.
In addition to the impressive aviary, the Zoo Ave is home to all four Costa Rican monkeys, wild cats and reptiles to name a few. The best zoo of the country has a program that focuses on animal breeding to keep up the numbers of the native animals of Costa Rica.

Zoo Ave, Alajuela Reviews
Zoo Ave is a great place to walk and see many birds, reptiles, monkeys, and others. There's a restaurant, a small souvenir's shop and a 3 cables zip Line tour. It's clean, free parking (please tip the security guard ) and affordable entrance fee. The staff members are friendly and professional. The iguanas are HUGE and they roam free. Allocate at least 3 hrs to visit Zoo Ave. You'll see more birds here than at any private bird watching tour!
There are many, many species of birds here, all beautiful. There were also several Old World and New World primates. In additional, there were literally hundreds of turtles, a few deer, and even sloths. At the time of our family visit, there were no animals in the nocturnal, jaguar, and cariblanco enclosures. Of great enjoyment were the wandering lizards and peacocks that frequently roamed in front of us. My only complaint is the entrance fee. There are often price differences for nationals and foreigners, but the price difference here was 3 times for a child's ticket. Avoid the on-site restaurant which was also terribly over-priced.
Nice park to see some different wild animals, the place is great to spend the morning and it's located in Alajuela but it's near to San José around one hour. The place is great but I visited some years ago and there is not changes. Besides I consider the price of entrance it's so expensive. You can see here a lot of birds, wild cats, monkeys, a crocodile and other animals.
Small zoo, can be seen in less than 2 hours. My family has been to this zoo several times and always loved it. It's good for all ages - teens love it too. Entrance is a bit pricey.
Love this place! Such a tranquil setting in the jungle with lots of up close animal encounters. A great way to spend the afternoon with the family. Highly recommend!
