  • This is a rather strange place so this review will not be a usual one. Let me start with the premise of the place. It's a commemoration and celebration of the whaling industry and the people behind. There are numerous displays featuring personal stories, experiences and struggles of men and women in the whaling sector. There are also stories about whaling in general and the local company behind it. The impact of the existence and then disbandment of the industry in the local community is also clearly demonstrated. This is all in a setting of an terrifically well preserved industrial setup. Sadly for me this industry is about mass killing of animals. So all of the above commemorations and celebrations are intersected by very vivid photographs of mutilated whales. As you walk through the ground you can almost imagine scenes of meat, blubber and blood all around you. There are a couple of attempts at redemption from taking multiple whale species to brink of extinction. "The numbers have bounced back..." is repeated. This sadly feels like a shallow attempt for an excuse by implying "we haven't done that much damage after all". I am giving it 4 starts because for a museum of whaling it's very well done, very authentic and comprehensive. Only 4 because it's rather pricey. But make sure you know what to expect. You won't find any mention of conversation here. This is raw, bloody celebration of killing.

  • One of the best historical museums depicting an industry now extinct in the South West of Australia. Having visited this place when in operation as a kid this was fascinating. Well preserved! Well presented! Worth the visit!

  • A great place to learn about the whaling history. Really interesting and plenty to look at and do. Beautiful scenery and an animal park which the kids also loved. A must do when visiting Albany.

  • My visit commenced with the guided tour by a well informed staff member which helped me understand the function of the whaling station. Being an old industrial plant, it lacks the refinement of a modern museum and may be difficult for some people to get around. However, the exhibits are well presented and the 3D film was particularly effective. The gift shop was well stocked and the cafe served good food in a great scenic setting.

  • Place that you must visit as a family. Whale skeleton are impressive and many more. Experience in the ship is so real in a windy day. Never feel something like that... There were good theaters with most innovated technology...The staff is very friendly and have good knowledge...Very value for the price...
