  • A must do tourist destination of Albany. An impressive use of what was a working whaling station. Be sure to attend the free tour as it provides a great start to your exploration. To really take your time and see all the whaling station, wildlife and nature walk, you will need a good 2 full days. Don't worry, you simply give your names to the ticket lady and you can return the next day for free. Make sure you stop by the little cafe! Some of the best tea and scones around!

  • Very interesting history. The whaling industry was a terrible slaughter of wonderful creatures and some of the displays photos are not for the faint hearted. The whaling station is after all a decommissioned abattoir. I found the factory machinery and the skeleton of the pigmy blue whale on display interesting. There is also a triple expansion steam engine fully restored and operated by compressed air that used to power one of the whale hunting ships as well as a whale hunting ship on the slip and open for display. There is a nice cafe beside the gift shop and as we sat there sipping our tea a whale sounded just off shore.

  • Fascinating look at the history of whaling in Albany, while still fun for the kids. You can climb aboard an original whaling vessel and explore, walk through the original processing station, and see real whale skeletons. Loads of old pictures, video, and artifacts to see. There is also an Australian wildlife park attached which is included in the entry price. You can have a guided tour or just look around for yourself, and are allowed back on a second day if you didn't get to see everything on the first. Well worth a visit.

  • I wasnt expecting much from this historic place but was pleasantly surprised. Stayed for about an hour but could have stayed for another hr to really take in everything. We did miss out on a couple things due to time commitments. We enjoyed the walk around the ship and the videos they had. The skeleton of the massive whale was pretty awesome to see in person. I do have to say we were pretty taken back by the entry fee for an adult. There are also the botanical gardens next door which i think the cost of the ticket includes. Anyhow i still recommend this to anyone passing by Albany.

  • Fantastic museum, that is a great educational and historic experience that is great for adults and children alike. You can easily spend a few hours there - with an onsite cafe and plenty of exhibits. It's a good day trip from Albany or Denmark
