The Royal Flying Doctor Service, previously known as Aerial Medical Service is 24 hour medical service where almost 80% of Australia can be reached by air, within two hours. The doctors and staff are constantly on call to respond to any medical emergency conveyed to them. Their main job at hand is to provide primary and preventive care till the patient is taken to a more stationary facility.
The Alice Springs base is a rather popular tourist attraction, but can be toured by the conducted tours that run every 30 minutes. The tour will allow you a look at the theatre for a visual treat, the operational air base, a full scale replica of the current aircraft in use, a flight simulator, medical gear used in the past and the control room.

The Royal Flying Doctor Service, Alice Springs Reviews - Write a Review
Great place to learn the RFDS history. Well worth a visit to support this organisation providing medical services to the Australian community like no other in the world.
Impressive real story. They have story presentation. Learning about the history.
The RFDS museum gives you a comprehensive history lesson on how, when and why the Royal Flying Doctor Service came to be. Although the museum is very small, they fit a "holographic-cinema" displaying a short documentary film about the organisation, a 1:1 replica of the Pilatus PC-12 airplane used by the RFDS today and hundreds of display pieces all important to the story. 16 AUD (adults) gives you access to the lot and is a must-do in Alice springs.
Great informative site to learn about the amazing work of the flying docters!
Food and service were great... Not much on the menu for children.
