About The Royal Flying Doctor Service, Alice Springs

The Royal Flying Doctor Service, previously known as Aerial Medical Service is 24 hour medical service where almost 80% of Australia can be reached by air, within two hours. The doctors and staff are constantly on call to respond to any medical emergency conveyed to them. Their main job at hand is to provide primary and preventive care till the patient is taken to a more stationary facility.

The Alice Springs base is a rather popular tourist attraction, but can be toured by the conducted tours that run every 30 minutes. The tour will allow you a look at the theatre for a visual treat, the operational air base, a full scale replica of the current aircraft in use, a flight simulator, medical gear used in the past and the control room.

  • In the throes of a owner change. Food and setting is lovely. Pricing is expensive for a cafe setting. They get a constant stream of hospital employees not just tourists. Consider pitching to your local market

  • Absolutely a great educational experience. Really opened my eyes to such a wonderful service.

  • Great place to learn the RFDS history. Well worth a visit to support this organisation providing medical services to the Australian community like no other in the world.

  • Freindly staff good introduction to the centre.

  • displays a little outdated but interesting nonetheless
