Best Time To Visit Almaty

Alamaty has a humid continental climate with hot summers, extreme winters and precipitation throughout the year. Its climate chart goes somewhat like this:

  • Spring (March to April): The temperature usually rises upto 15 degree Celsius during day hours. However, the nights are quite cold with temperature falling upto -10 degree Celsius. Hence, if you are visiting Almaty for the first time with family in this season, make sure you carry a few layered clothes to cover up yourself at night.
  • Summer (May to August): Summers are comparatively drier than other seasons, especially in the month of August. Such climate makes this season perfect for exploring the city. That’s why, this season is sometimes considered as the peak season for Almaty.  
  • Autumn (September to October): Like spring, autumn also comes in a short period. However, the later half of autumn becomes quite cold because of a fall in the temperature.
  • Winter (November to February): The temperature drops below 0 degree Celsius in this season. Thus, travel in this season only if you are able to bear severe winter.

Overall climate shows that summer is the best time to visit Almaty. But Spring can also be considered for those who doesn’t mind travelling in the off season.

    • The winter is usually harsh in Almaty and is marked by occasional winter rains and temperatures that drop below 0 degree Celsius. But, as you are from Canada, you may not find it as harsh as other travelers. And as you are visiting in October, you will be greeted by the weather that is a blend of autumn and winter.
