Bhrigu Kamandal is actually a small cave, located quite close to Amarkantak, which is said to have been the sadhna (spiritual practice) place for Maharishi Bhrigu, a highly learned sage and one of the legendary seven Saptarishis of Hindu religion. There is a small Shivlingam inside the cave that devotees can come and pray to, and a large cubical stone with a small hole in it. According to the locals this was the water tumbler of Maharishi Bhrigu, and devotees have to reach inside this hollow stone, find and cup water in their fist and then pour it over the Shivlingam to be truly blessed. A little bit of trekking too is involved to reach this spot, but is definitely worth the effort! Madhya Pradesh Tourism at its best indeed!
