Let me start off by saying that you must come here if you visit Amsterdam. If you want a concise and informative history lesson about Amsterdam there isn't really a better place. The interactive exhibits are a great way to learn anything. The collection here is varied and fantastic. It ranges from medieval history up to present day (and even has a gallery space). Overall, this place is excellent. Unfortunately, with every up there is a down. And this particular down is the reason, for me at least, as to why it didn't get 5 stars. I felt that it really rushed past its colonial history. I wanted to hear more about the VOC and the various colonies in the Caribbean! To be honest, this "down" is common throughout Europe, so I do feel bad about it (unfortunately there wasn't a 4.5 star option, a 20% penalty is a bit harsh). Therefore, in conclusion, do visit this place. If you want a great museum then look no further. Also, take in some time to enjoy and absorb the beautiful historic setting for this place.
Superb museum. Fantastic staff. I had to check out early and wait 6 hours for my flight, and managed to spend all of it in the museum. The staff were very obliging with holding my suitcase in the cloakroom. The exhibits are excellent and worth every cent. There was a bit of a gap explaining Napoleon's time and just before (could I have missed a wall??) But apart from that, double thumbs up. Go here, spare 2-3 hours, you won't regret..
Great place in the Centre of the city, easy reachable, free with museum cards, audio guides make it easy for you to go around. Very interesting history wise and great paintings
This museum is the best place to discover the rich history of Amsterdam. Located right in the city centre and a decent entry fee. You cant miss this one when in Amsterdam.
The Amsterdam Museum is nice to visit for the good overview of the history and architecture of Amsterdam. The audio tour was helpful and entertaining. I suggest using it if you want to get the most out of your visit. The museum itself is not very big and took me less than 2 hours to peruse all of the exhibits. Although my visit was brief, by the end I had learned a great deal about the city.
