The Munttoren, also referred to as the Mint is a tall tower in Amsterdam which stands on the Muntplein square and was once Regulierspoort’s part that consisted of a gate along with a tower on either side. The tower was constructed somewhere between 1480 and 1487 and back in the seventeenth century, was utilized to mint coins. The carillon in the tower was made in 1668 and new bells were added to the instrument. There’s also an automated bronze drum which is still in function and announces the strike for the bell for hour and a half. Also, every fifteen minutes, the sound of jingles comes from the Munttoren tower so you always know the time.
