Natura Artis Magistra, Amsterdam Reviews

  • Very efficiently laid out zoo. It may look small, but it will take you several hours to go through and check out all the exhibits. It gets very crowded on nice days so plan accordingly. If travelling with babies, I recommend using a carrier as strollers are too low to see over some of the barriers. Better yet, you could borrow one of the zoo's mobile chairs.

  • Nice zoo, bigger than it looks. Animals seem happy, they're very vocal but I feel they'd do better with bigger enclosures. Small gift shop and a few places to eat. I especially enjoyed the walkthrough bird area. I think the penguins could definitely do with more water for their welfare. Definitely buy tickets online I'm advance , the lines looked long but because we bought our tickets in advance we went straight in. The aquarium was nice.

  • Very nice setting by old architecture and the canals, the ARTIS zoo clearly has a professional staff and management. All facilities are clean and well maintained. There is a large variety of animals. The enclosures allow for a nice viewing experience. And the animals seem well taken care of as many of them were active and playful. I recommend the zoo for families or for anyone who enjoys a nice day experiencing animals from around the world in a top notch facility.

  • This is the best zoo I’ve been to. It’s beautifully constructed to its tiniest detail. I love how some section are designed around the culture of the location the animal is from. From corals to giraffes and almost everything in between the Amsterdam Zoo is a lovely place to visit. Oh, and you can see sloths freely hanging around - brewer, they’re quite smelly.

  • This is still a zoo and no animal should be placed in captivity for our enjoyment. But compared to other zoo's, especially those in the U.S., ARTIS does a better job of trying to be an educational, humane, and also beautiful place to take a family or go on a date. There's a wide variety of exhibits, from the more popular to more exotic zoo animals. But whether that's a bad or good thing is up to you.
