Oudeschans also referred to as Oude Schans is a wide canal which forms the city island of Uilenburg’s western bank bordering the Lastage neighbourhood. On the canal, which at times is also referred to as the Montelbaansgracht, stands the sixteenth-century Montelbaanstoren which is a beautiful tower built in 1516 and was then extended in 1606 to its current decorative form. Tourists and locals generally visit for the picturesque view which also makes for fantastic photo opportunities with the waterfront and boats.
