Tassenmuseum Hendrikje, Amsterdam Reviews
Absolutely loved this unique and charming museum. The collection is stunning in its diversity, and also a wonderful sociological reminder that people have always had things and needed to carry them--in practicality and style. If you're at all into fashion (and history), you'll enjoy this one-of-a-kind gem!
My family decided to take a look at this museum after seeing it during our canal ride. It's a small museum not really on the main tourist roads, which explains why the museum is rather quiet. The collection of bags and purses that you see in this museum come from private collections, which is pretty special. The museum is housed in a UNESCO heritage listed house along the canal! You'll see lots of bags made from all sorts of materials ranging from the Middle Ages to now, but one thing thing that is consistent in all of them is the craftsmanship. Some bags are really incredible. The collection is spread over a few floors, but wheelchair facilities are available to those who are unable to take the stairs. The museum prefers if tickets are paid through debit or credit card; if you'd like to pay by cash, they will most likely tell you they don't have change for 100 euros, so have smaller notes on hand!
An amazing display of the evolution of expensive purses and travel bags. With so many gorgeous showpieces, one hour probably won't be enough to take time enjoy them all. The only negative thing I have to say is that the rooms and the exhibits were very poorly lit and didn't allow for the close inspection of the details of most bags.. 28.3.2014
Wifey really wanted to check this place out so I said what the heck. It was actually set up really well and she loved it. I wish it was a little bit bigger for the price but it wasn’t too bad. She enjoyed the history and crazy purses from all over and of course she loved the gift shop downstairs.
This is such a fun museum There are purses and bags from the Middle-ages up thru today . The collection is astounding and well worth the price of admission. The video of the founders said their aim was to make people leave with a smile. I know I certainly did. I highly recommend this delightful museum!!!
