Mckinley Explorer gives you the chance to enjoy the absolutely idyllic views with a ride in a deluxe dome railcar. Not only are the seats comfortable but the seating area on the upper deck is large and the glass-domed railcars are perfect for sightseeing and offer panoramic views of the scenery passing by. On the ride, you would get to observe wildlife, lush greenery and breathtaking views of Mt. Denali. If the weather is clear, the train would slow down allowing the passengers to snap a few pictures. Railcar attendants on Mckinley Explorer sell snacks and drinks on the train and the commentator would give you detailed information about Alaska.

McKinley Explorer Reviews & Ratings
Had one of the best experience in riding on the train from Anchorage to Whittier. The train ride was smooth and we got some of the best seats in the train on the upper deck of one of the carriages. Our carriage had a pantry and served delicious meals and coffee. The train ride is a must if you have kids under 10 and worth the cost of the tickets. All along the train ride, there was wildlife and history that was constantly being announced. The Anchorage depot location was easy to find with plenty of parking right next to it. Couldnt have asked for a better experience during my Alaska trip.
The train ride to Whittier was beautiful! Calm Turnagain Arm with foggy snow capped mountains. The guides are well educated and tell interesting facts.
Traveling from Minnesota. The train from anchorage to Seward is a must ride! We are outdoor enthusiasts and this is a beautiful relaxing ride with gorgeous views and wildlife sightings.
As strange as it sounds, i’ve never ridden a train before so this experience of the Alaska Railroad was a treat! This was a trip from Anchorage to Seward. I've driven to Seward before but the train ride there allows you to see scenery you aren't able to view from the car! The staff was extremely friendly and the process of boarding was very smooth. It was nice that we had the flexibility to walk around after the train started moving, we were able to explore the train! I didn’t realize that was possible. I was surprised when the staff came and gave us tips for viewing scenery and wildlife, some facts of what we were seeing and offered to book tables for us in the dining cart. That was a level of service I wasn’t expecting. In regards to the food and wait staff on the dining cart, the food was really tasty and the service was quick! It was nice to be able to enjoy scenery while eating and I didn’t feel rushed out after we eat, we were able to leave at our own leisure. The back of the train had a unique and awesome view, we were able to walk from the front all the way to the back and take some photos. The glass dome car was also really fun to sit in and see an unobstructed 360 view of nature. The views around us were astounding! I can’t believe I was able to see all these beautiful new sights on the way to Seward I wouldn’t see by road and that was amazing. We even saw a Moose and her baby calf, and a bear! I was able to get some excellent photos! I’ll definitely be recommending the Alaska Railroad to friends, and I’d definitely ride it again! Thanks for that amazing trip!
Beautiful architecture in a working train station. The often have displays to view while you're waiting for your train. Also, there's a great Alaska gift shop here with very reasonable prices. There's a helpful and friendly staff behind the windows to help you with your journey..
