A stunning pentagonal structure, the Lazzaretto is an 18th century building erected on a manmade island. With the motive of serving as a quarantine station and Leprosarium, this structure housed those with the Hansen's disease. Over time, the structure served various purposes like serving as a military citadel in the 19th century. There are three bridges that connect this artificial island to the mainland.
