About Chateau De Serrant, Angers

15 kms west of Angers, this is probably one of the best furnished Chateaus in Angers. Originally built on the lines of a medieval fortress, its 14th Century owners, the Brie family, undertook the task of modernizing the interiors.

The exquisite furnishings and fabulous collections of paintings, tapestries and books is not something that you come across very often.Admire the:

  • Sculpted ceiling.
  • The grand staircase leading to the library upstairs.
  • Antique furniture such as the Henry IV ebony cabinet.

The castle organizes activities such as themed visits, night visits etc. from time to time, to let visitors feel the true essence of the history of the castle.

Boasting a schist and tufa façade, the castle is a true blue example of Renaissance French architecture, where lavatories are concealed within closets and bathrooms hidden behind cupboards!

  • Very interesting castle! In the standard visit you get to see a couple of rooms on the ground floor, a couple of rooms on the first floor and get a glimpse of the to-be-restored rooms. Nice but not a must-see. The guided tour instead was amazing. Not only you will get the historical context of the castle but you will also get to see an impressive library (among the biggest privately owned in France), working rooms, restored bedrooms and a visit to the kitchen. If you are in the area I'd definitely recommend a 2h stop to visit this

  • Terrific, and go for the guided tour, as you see more, including the it's-got-to-be-seen-to-be-believed ebony cabinet. What a place. If it was good enough for HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother in May 1981 to stay for three nights, you know it is worth a visit.

  • Tasted and bought local wine!! I love that castle!!!
