With a trail that connects to the Lillie Park Trail, the Black Pond Woods Nature Area is a small but beautiful trail that takes you through colourful flower plantations, a serene woodland area that is home to oaks, hickory maple and dogwood trees. If you are lucky, you can also spot hummingbirds along the way. Fun fact: the pond was named after the colour of the pond which was carved by the glacier that was receding. Over time, the leaves and humus that fell over it released a black colour to the water in the pond-giving it unusual name. In spite of its name, the area is probably one of the most colourful nature trails in the city during summer and spring and even though most of it is a dirt road, the place is preferred for jogging, running and even to walk pets.
