Spread across an area of 94,000 square feet, theUniversity of Michigan Museum of Art is one of the largest art museums in the country. Over its history, the place has showcased the work of artists including Helen Frankenthaler, Pablo Picasso, James McNeill Whistler, Franz Kline, Joshua Reynolds, Claude Monet, Walker Evans, Randolph Rogers and Max Beckmann. Even today, this is by far the best place in the state to check out unique artwork from all over the world. The museum also showcasesthe works of regionalcontemporary artists- making sure you see something new during every visit.
The buildingisdesigned in neo-classical style and maintains a clean, minimal look with beautiful wooden flooring and wide open spaces that accentuatethe art pieces. The Chinese art gallery with old historic pottery pieces and sculptures, European and American Art Galleryknown for its beautiful sculptures and paintingsenhanced by the classic European architecture of the gallery itself and the Modern and Contemporary Design Gallery are the highlightsof the place. The Hall itself has donated art pieces from the Alumni of the university and includes a bust of Henry Philippe Tappan- the first president of the Michigan University.
