Cathedral Of Our Lady - Review

A pinnacle of Gothic architecture, the Cathedral was at the time of completion one of the tallest buildings in the world, and still holds that title within the city. Despite having lost much of it’s original art, the cathedral is still a treasure. The star attractions are the Rubens paintings: Descent of the Cross, Elevation of the Cross and the Resurrection Triptych. Visitors often comment on the exceeding elegance of the building, the lovely stained glass windows, it’s beautiful statuary and the magnificent altar. It’s one of the world’s most beautiful churches.

  • I loved the English guided tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable, kind and genuinely cared about people in the group. He revealed so much valuable information that gave me better understanding of space, it's history and the masterpieces exhibited there. Unfortunately, I haven't checked the guide name.

  • Well worth a visit and the entrance fee. Apart from a beautiful cathedral there are a large number of altar paintings on exhibit from Rubens and other painters before and after him. There are also some interesting explanations about the renovation of the wall and ceiling paintings. Take anywhere from 1-2 hours to take most of it in.

  • The Cathedral of Our Lady Antwerp has to be one of the most gorgeous in this part of the world. It Will cost you (i guess 6 Euros) to get in, but definitely worth a visit to this iconic cathedral. Its an Extraordinary cathedral and a pleasure to visit it and understand the history. It looks fantastic from the outside and so does it from the inside. The Christmas Mass yesterday was beautiful, even for those not being deeply religious. The Rubens collection inside is simply fantastic, it's a little piece of history and it also is surprising to see how openly they are exhibited contrary to some museums also holding masterpieces from Rubens. A must see place if visiting Antwerp.

  • The cathedral is definitely a landmark monument. When you come to Antwerp you should visit !! It's a beautiful example of gothic architecture and it holds a lot of paintings of amongst other Rubens ,the historical artist of Antwerp, himself. Many of the locals are proud about this building and they should be :)

  • €6 entrance fee. Long queue when we entered then none upon exit 🙄. Beautiful paintings and stained glass. Feels like more of a gallery than a religious worship place.
