Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi is an ancient fig tree which was regarded as sacred by some Buddhist people. During the 3rd century, it was brought here by Sangamitta Theri and planted on a terrace of height 6.5m by King Devanampiya Tissa. You can find 4 different Buddhist statues have been placed on the 4 sides which were gifted by King Vasabha. It houses some metallic statues which were gifted by King Voharika Tissa. King Mahanaga constructed a water canal to water the tree. Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi has an image house where you can find 2 statues of Buddha along with a rare cobra stone.
