Espace Van Gogh - Review
With beautiful courtyards and lovely gardens blooming with flowers and bursting with colours, the Espace Van Gogh, is a gorgeous place. Formerly a hospital, it is very famous for this was where the legendary artist, Vincent Van Gogh was taken after he cut off his own ear.
The building has an aura of peace and calm. The Espace Van Gogh also happens to be an inspiration for two of the artist’s 200 paintings – one depicting the gorgeous gardens named as Garden of the Hospital in Arles and the other of the ward within named as Ward of the Hospital in Arles. He brought down the memories of his time in the hospital on canvas and they live on today. Throughout the years, attempts have been made to maintain the same look of the garden as it had in Van Gogh’s painting of 1889.
With a history dating back to the 16th century, the Espace Van Gogh is a part of cultural and university centre. The courtyards are surrounded on all four sides by buildings. The first and second floor of this place is home to a circulation gallery. As a part of the centre, it includes a media library, the public records, the International College of the Literary Translation (C.I.T.L.), the university radio and a few shops.
The architecture of Espace Van Gogh is well preserved, specially the historic features such as the Roman Esplanade. It is a lovely place to visit for art enthusiasts. Occasionally, the space also hosts art exhibitions.
