Playa de las Américas is a purpose-built holiday resort in the southern and southern-west part of the Municipality of Arona, close to the adjoining Municipality of Adeje in the west of Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands. It was built in the 1960s beside the town of Los Cristianos and stretching west to the Costa Adeje. The resort area features bars, nightclubs, restaurants, attractions, and beaches, most of which are man-made with imported sand from Africa due to the darkness of the native volcanic sand. Playa de las Americas is a centre of nightlife in Tenerife. Nightlife is spread around the resort and includes the Veronicas Strip, Starco Commercial Centre and the Patch.Wikipedia

Beach and walks nice. Sea clean and inviting. Hotels nice. BUT... very commercialised, every shop waiting to rip you off. No old buildings or history here. Expensive if you leave hotel for anything or are not all inclusive. Weather great.
Rocky beach, great for wildlife, crabs, lizards, but not for a lounging on. The locals walk their dogs on it.... Yes it's not clean. It's a real shame. The surfers love it. And it didn't stop us climbing out further looking for crabs. But if it's a sandy beach for sunbathing you were hoping for, stay at your hotel.
Good shopping at the Safari Centre. Lovely beaches and great places to eat drink and have fun. Hard Rock Cafe is a must! Opposite the Safari Centre Fountain, Live bands fantastic food and the most amazing staff. We had a night with "The Golden Years" with front man Alex, a true entertainer! Amazing! Golf las Americas is fantastic if you like to play a round or two and the Marylanza Suites and Spa with it's fantastic team who are a credit to the Island make your stay unforgettable!
Great place for adults. Not the best for kids unless your complex has entertainment. At night it's noisy and rowdy with drunks and people on other stuff. The lucky lucky men and women are everywhere and you find it hard to walk a few feet without being harassed for hair braiding, sunglasses, bags, rugs or watched. We ( myself and partner) were even offered cocaine and cannabis by the male lucky lucky men. Which we respectfully declined but that's what to expect. The bars are plentiful and there's football on in most of them (ugh!) The local restaurants are nice but there's someone stood outside each one trying to get you to go in, so between the constant harassment from the lucky lucky's and the restaurant staff, it's a pretty hectic affair! But if you make it through alive... The beaches are amazing and Siam park is a must! There are loads of shops and malls and the hard rock cafe is worth every penny. The sunsets are spectacular and the locals are friendly. I'll probably come back next year but not with the kids as I found protaras in Cyprus much better for the family.
Always warm all year round...black sand..what can go wrong...ideal for a relaxed lay on the beach!
