Black Mountain College Museum And Arts Center - Review

A museum quite in its nature and content the Black Mountain College Museum and Arts Center has long and interesting history. Founded in 1933 the college was home to many artists and intellectuals that had been persecuted in Europe. Quite a legend even till now the Black Mountain College has attracted many famous people like Willem and Elaine de Kooning, Robert Rauschenberg, Josef and Anni Albers, Jacob Lawrence, Charles Olson, Robert Creeley, Dorothea Rockburne and many more. The collection of arts here ranges from paintings, films, sculptures, drawings all of which express a vast array of ideas from abstract to the existential. There are also other events like talks and screenings arranged from time to time at the college. A must visit if you are around.

Black Mountain College Museum And Arts Center, Asheville Reviews

Google+
  • Saw. A one man play on Buckmaster Fuller. It was great.

  • This museum consists of two storefronts across the street from each other. They are more like art galleries than a museum, there is nothing about the history of Black Mountain College. On the day I went, one of the rooms was open and had works by an artist historically associated with the college. On the other there was a sign "back in five minutes" Some people had already waited ten minutes, I waited five more. The woman across the street, in the other storefront, said "maybe he went to lunch". I called their phone number and got the answering service, no call back. If you visiting Asheville and happen to be in the neighborhood, stop in and see what is on display. But don't go out of your way to go there.

  • Two locations across the street from each other. So glad to see the history and importance of Black Mountain College being preserved and enlivened through research and presentation.

  • Preserving Art from an old Art School...

  • delicious
