Fukuzumiro, Ashigarashimo District Reviews

  • For $700 a night I expected better service. We got an abrupt young girl who was clearly unhappy that she had to work on a Saturday night. I speak fluent Japanese so I know she was using very informal language with us and she was impatient with us and willfully ignoring our questions. I complained to the floor staff but it went unneeded. The food was not that good, I expected more for the amount they were charging us. I told them I was a vegetarian but they sent fish, snail and Octopus (my husband enjoyed it though). The air conditioning is shot. I should have known when I saw the fan in the room. This whole place is run down and the pictures on the web and the youtube videos look way better than what you will see behind the scenes (see my pictures). The onsen was a large wooden tub sunk into the wooden floor and totally unremarkable. If you are a smoker you will like this place, but if not be aware that they allow it on-site. What a waste of money. I was so excited to visit this place and amped up about it, bragging to everyone that I was going to have a great time at such an exclusive location but sadly this place is way overrated.

  • So very beautiful. The service was wonderful. Our helper, Mama, had good English. The food was well displayed and delish. They give the option of Western or Japanese style. Also we got there about 5:20 which is late and they were fine with it. Totally worth it. Oh, one thing to note - the baths are EXTREMELY hot.

  • What an amazing an tranquil place. We will totally do this again. We loved it and they were good with children. The family onset was perfect for us as no at no extra cost.

  • This was the highlight of our trip to Japan. Such a great, traditional Japanese experience. The staff could not be more helpful and service-minded. Our room had a river view, which was beautiful. The private onsen was relaxing and comfortable. Highly recommend staying here as part of your vacation to Japan.

  • I will preface this review by saying my girlfriend and I were coming back from hiking Fuji. We just wanted to shower and relax in the hot springs. Instead we get ambushed with questions about when we want food and, exactly what time we wanted to check out and so on. Sadly, that was the minor issue here. There is 3 hot springs and 2 bathrooms at this place for all 20 or so rooms to use. The private “family” onsen is so hot it isn’t usable. That left 2 gender separated springs to use. One was only slightly less scalding than the private onsen and looks like a hot tub. The final spring was what I was expecting and had rocks and was nice but was packed and could only be used by one gender for half your stay and the other gender the other half. To top it all off, the food you get at the meals is awful. My girlfriend and I got food poisoning from it which is very rare for us. Food that should have been hot was cold, and the bad tasting dishes just kept coming. Everything about this place was bad and not worth a single dime. The rooms were beat up, in need of new sliding doors, etc. If you want food poisoning and a bad experience come here. If you’re smart you’ll stay clear of here.
