The ghost town of Ashcroft was formerly the home of around 2000 residents and a thriving mining village. In the 19th century, the silver mine in this village ran out of its ore and the people tried to find other means of livelihood but failed. The opening of the Rio Grande Railway Line in Aspen sealed the fate of abandonment for Ashcroft. Today, there are only the empty buildings that remain as an evidence of a once-flourishing town. There are guided tours available to learn more about this town. You can also buy souvenirs from here. The town is protected by the Aspen Historical Society.

Aschroft Ghost Town Reviews & Ratings
Blink and you'll miss it as you swoop down off the mountain. But see it if you can, a well restored authentic mining pueblo set high in the Rockies, enthusiastic staff and accessible history from the bike/car park. The smell of wood and tools inside the restored timber buildings is a joy!
Beautiful place. So many Aspen colors. Nice picnic area to eat your lunch by the river stream.
So pretty but it wasn't advertised you have to pay $5 per person to see the remnants of Ashcroft. We had no cash on hand and were forced to skip it. Staff/ volunteers were very nice. It is insanely beautiful back there, still a nice drive. Castle Creek is really pretty. Bring cash if you want to see the ghost town and I wish I would have been in my 4wd to explore more.
A forgotten and abandoned mining town which has been recently transformed into a tourist attraction. The best time to visit and capture mind-blowing photos of Ashcroft is from late September until October.
Beautiful area. The buildings are well preserved for being out in the extreme weather. Nice walking paths. A few picnic tables down by the river
