The Cathedral Lake Trail is one of the more adventurous hikes near Aspen. The total length of the trail is 5.6 miles and it is one of the difficult hikes thanks to its steep elevations just a few minutes into the trail. Despite the obstacles, this trail is quite popular among the locals in Aspen. There are hundreds of aspen and fir trees in groves around this trail that add to the beauty of the track. You can enjoy spectacular views of the Castle Creek Valley from the open meadows on the route. The Cathedral Lake is located amidst views of the Malamute and the Cathedral Peaks and the trail leading to Electric Pass. Those wanting even more daunting trails can attempt to climb up the Electric Pass from the lake. Locals will recommend that you climb up the pass and then descend onto Cathedral Lake.

  • I spent two lazy, blissful hours sitting by this lake all by myself on a sunny October day. It was the last day of my three day backpacking trip in the Tuolumne Meadows wilderness area. The shimmering blue lake surrounded by the granite peaks of the Sierra range makes for a gorgeous setting in which to enjoy a quiet, reflective afternoon.

  • Great trail. Not very long but all the way is up the hill. I spent 3.5 hours both ways but I met people that spent 6 hours both ways. Up to your shape

  • Nature around is beautyful
