Close to the south ridge of Geissler Mountain is the Linkins Lake. The route to this lake begins around half a mile away from the Independence Lake Trailhead on Highway 82. This large lake is an ideal spot for fishing and relaxing in the forest. Other trails near this lake offer great views of the Geissler ridge. Thanks to its altitude, the trail is often cold even in the peak of summer. You can access magnificent views of the Continental Divide from this lake. Most of the trees on this trail are short, but they can easily be around 200 years old. It is not too warm around here and hence trees do not grow too tall. The environment is quite fragile around the lake and hence camping is prohibited here.
