Grand Mitropolis Cathedral - Review
The Grand Metropolis Cathedral is better known as the Athens Cathedral or the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens. It is one of the relatively modern buildings worth seeing in the city. The old stone church looks very lovely located in this historic place. Built in the 1800s it throws light on the medieval era in Athens.
The lovely paintings and engravings are certainly worth seeing. Often we tend to look at Athens as an ancient city so it is surprising to see this monument from the recent history here. Built in 1862, this cathedral was constructed after Athens was declared as the capital of Greece.
The Grand Mitropolis is also the seat of the bishop and an important centre for Greek Orthodoxy. A visit here is a must if you wish to look at its beautiful colouful Byzantine – style frescoes inside.

Grand Mitropolis Cathedral, Athens Reviews
Beautifull church in the midlle of Athens. Take a moment and contemplate in silence and light a candle for your loved ones. Nice.
Modern looking church on the outside but quiet a beauty on the inside for the decor and what not. Worth a short detour or visit if you happens to last by. Obviously a stop in for those who wants to light a candle or pray. Free admission
Beautiful large Greek Orthodox church at a lively location of the historical centre of the city of Athens. The square is pretty nice too, the architecture is an interesting one.
Just in the city center, beautiful architecture.
Probably the most tourist-visited church in Athens, after years or renovation is now complete, nice architecture and big space inside, interesting to come here during a mass or while celebrating Easter.
