Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens is one of the popular places of worship in Athens. It is known to be the cathedral church of the Archbishopric of the city and all Greece. Many people simply call it ‘MÓtrópolis’. The building we see today dates back to the 1840s and took around 2 decades to complete. During the construction, marble from 72 demolished churches was used to create the cathedral walls. Keep in mind that the renovation of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens may result in some of its sections being closed to the public.
