  • In front of the parliament there are two Evzons in traditional war clothes with guns. The third guardian, dressed in the usual shape and without a gun is nearby. He has a special task - to take care that the clothes of the evzones, standing on the post, have always been in order, and, when necessary, to correct him. People come to see the guardians change every hour. The main attraction is on Sunday at 11 am. Guardian change happens to the music of the military orchestra.

  • Arrive early for the changing of the guard, esp if it's a touristy time of the year. Definitely a "must see!"

  • The Square houses the Greek Parliament. Very Important square of modern Athens from both a historical and social point of view.

  • The Changing of the Guard at Parliament is conducted every Sunday at 11am. We arrived quite early and the crowd had already started to build on the left side of the Parliament building. We positioned ourselves on the pathway across the street from Parliament (on Syndagma Square side) as the guards were not allowing anyone to be in front of the Parliament building. Guards were not allowing people to form on the right hand side of the Parliament building as this is where the troops form their lines when they arrive. It was a great spot to view the procession coming down as they turned off Leof. Vasilissis Sofia street towards the Parliament building. The police had stopped all traffic movement on the streets by this time. Once the procession had passed the we were allowed to move forward and across the road to the front of the building to watch the Changing of the Guards. I would advise you to move very quick if you want a good view as it gets very crowded and rather chaotic as the crowd surges forward. Everyone is trying to get a good viewing spot!
